About Elm & Cloth

Hi, I’m Katherine, and I’m glad you’re here.

Elm & Cloth began as a way to document the projects that transformed our home into a place where our family loves to spend time together. Like many parents, I wanted spaces that encouraged creativity, movement, reading, and imaginative play—but I also wanted them to feel beautiful and intentional.

Instead of filling our home with expensive custom pieces, we started building them ourselves.

Some projects were simple weekend builds. Others required plenty of trial and error, redesigns, and a few lessons learned along the way. Every tutorial on this site comes from a real project in our own home, and I share not only what worked, but also what I’d do differently if I built it again.

I believe the best DIY projects don’t just save money—they create spaces that bring people together. Whether it’s an indoor climbing wall, a cozy reading nook, a LEGO corner, or a hand-painted sign, my goal is always the same: to build spaces that invite curiosity, creativity, and connection.

I hope these projects give you ideas and confidence to create a home that reflects your own family and the way you love to live.

Thanks for visiting Elm & Cloth. I’m glad you’re here.
